Defending, Cheryl Mottram, said:
"It is difficult to get behind Mr Hogg and the reasons he behaves the way he does."
"One reason is clear - he was at the time and did around that time misuse cocaine quite significantly."
"It would appear his mental health difficulties would stem from the misuse of drugs."Prosecutor, Fiona McNeill said:
"He said he had taken cocaine and believed he had gone into some kind of drug induced psychosis and remembered virtually nothing about the incident."A doctor who visited Hogg in prison for psychiatric was turned back after declining to see him.
Presiding, Judge Neil Flewitt, QC, said:
"You claimed it was all an accident and forced her to give evidence and be cross-examined."
"She had a broken leg and was using crutches. That’s something that you knew about."
"Notwithstanding that, you pushed her to the floor and deliberately sat on her already broken leg, causing her extreme pain and serious further injury."
"That was a particularly mean and cruel thing to do, to somebody for whom you are supposed to have cared."He was sentenced to two years and three months in prison.
