The unnamed man could be seen in the cellphone footage trying to charge at the mob with the knife in hand as passengers hurl objects at him, whack him with sticks in an attempt to break free but was unsuccessful.
Photos taken after the mob attack show the bloodied perp back on his feet as police assist him onboard the SuperVia train.
A Facebook user, Jackeline Oliveira, posted the photos with the caption:
"Man pretends to be a woman's boyfriend to kidnap her!"
"I was on the train, 21, all normal until a woman starts screaming. I thought it was some kind of fight, but it was much worse."
"A man tried to kidnap a woman on the train."
"He took advantage that the doors would close and pulled a woman by her arm saying he was her boyfriend, she threw herself on the floor of the train and said she did not know him, he said insistently: 'please, I love you, do not end with me'."
"He had a huge knife and when he saw that he had no way out, he started trying to hit anyone with the knife."Social media users hailed the mob as the footage went viral.
