The case first came to light when the victim who was a student from Columbia University filed a Police report which led to Farooqui's arrest last June.
The case is perceived as a landmark as its verdict has been delivered under a 2013 amendment to the criminal law which included forced oral sex as a crime, the complaint's counsel Vrinda Grover told the Express.
"This is perhaps one of the first cases of forced oral sex, which shows two things: that there was a crime for which we did not earlier have an offense named, now it has been recognized as rape. We're also very happy to see that the court relied on very credible evidence that the woman gave."The brutal gang-rape of a young Delhi woman on a moving bus in New Delhi on December 16, 2012 sparked nationwide protests. The outcry led to a call for action against crimes against women which included legal amendments and fast-tracking rape cases.
Farooqui was first introduced to the student, who is in her thirties, by Danish Hussain, a long-time friend of the director. Local reports said that Hussain, in his testimony said that the victim contacted him after the assault.
According to reports, the 2012 incident was also referred to in the testimony of the American woman who told the court that she "did not resist" the rape because she feared she would also be killed like the Delhi gang-rape victim.
Farooqui is expected to appeal the verdict and the case could go to a higher court.
"Our fight for justice is by no means over," his wife Anusha Rizvi told the Hindustan Times. " We will approach the High Court for justice that has been denied to us"Before ya'll begin to point fingers, there's always two sides to a story... I've seen articles/news where people are wrongly convicted of rape.
I'm asking that the necessary system conducts a thorough investigation, interrogation of both the victim and the perpetrator before sentencing.
She referred to an old rape case which was the reason she didn't resist... errmmhh!

Nathan was heading out to work extra shift when his wife sent a message alerting her would be killer boyfriend/lover of her husband's location just so he could finish him up.

Michelle however wasn't about that life when she wasted no time in confessing upon interrogation and admitted that she and her lover had planned for Nathan's murder for two months but Michael wasn't willing to confess at first claiming he was having sex with another woman in a Las Vegas hotel at the time of the shooting, but the woman, an ex porn star, said she'd been offered money by Michael to give him an alibi. He had told her he was about to come into a large amount of cash.
Both Michelle and Michael were charged with Nathan's murder in September 20156. Michael received life in prison without the chance to appeal or parole while Michelle pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder and to first-degree murder with use of a deadly weapon.
Michelle broke down when she faced Nathan's parents.
"I'm sorry." she wept. "I love you guys and I love my kids, and I hope that this is closure for you." "I was emotionally vulnerable," she said. "I made a huge mistake and a really bad choice and I'm truly sorry."

As a woman of faith, I forgive you because your soul clearly needs forgiveness," Nathan's mum said to Michelle.
According to Nathan's mum, Michelle's kids still jump up from bed at loud noises because they fear their mum could attack them the way she killed their father.
The Judge said "You were much more involved than you're willing to admit," He said. Michelle, now 33, was sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole.
According to the Judge, Michelle threw away years of devotion for a man she'd known just six months.
