12-YEAR-OLD GIRL SUFFERS SECOND AND THIRD-DEGREE BURNS AFTER DOING THE VIRAL "FIRE CHALLENGE" [PHOTOS]

A 12-year-old girl identified as Timiyah Landers of Detroit reportedly bedridden with second and third-degree burns on 49 percent of her body after she poured flammable rubbing alcohol on herself before setting herself on fire - an attempt at the bizzare "fire challenge" that has left her hospitalized.
Her mother, Brandi Owens, said in a statement for an online fundraiser for Timiyah that the incident "has shocked and shaken our entire family to the core."

According to the authorities, the fire challenge has been around for at least 6 or 7 years. It involves pouring rubbing alcohol on yourself and then lighting it on fire before rushing to a bathtub or other body of water to extinguish it, all while filming. Because rubbing alcohol is a thin liquid, it usually burns quickly and sometimes does no harm.
