Four Palestinians were reportedly killed after Israeli airstrikes on Hamas targets in Gaza following the shooting death of an Israeli soldier near the Gaza-Israel border as violent border protests continues.

The Israeli military alleged a "terrorist squad" fired at troops in which they lost one soldier.

The military claim to have struck 15 Hamas locations in the airstrikes  including weapon warehouses, command and control centres and training facilities.

It said:
"Fighter jets commenced a wide-scale attack against Hamas military targets throughout the Gaza Strip. Hamas chose to escalate the security situation and will bear the consequences for its actions".
The militant Islamic Hamas that rules Gaza said three of the four deceased were members of the group.

Israel said two Palestinian rockets were intercepted by its Iron Dome aerial defence system.

Hamas, who run Gaza have now said a ceasefire has been agreed with Israel.
