Matthew and Maria Colonna-Emanuel thought the rusty box behind their Staten Island home in New York was an old electrical box.
The supposed rusty electrical box remained half-buried at their backyard for years until it was exposed when trees in their yard were damaged by wildlife.
They realized it was a rusty old safe and contents of the safe left the couple in shock - $52,000 in cash, gold and diamonds and what they did next was just simply remarkable.
Matthew said:
When asked why they didn't keep the money and jewelries for themselves, Maria said, "It wasn't even a question. It wasn't ours."
"The reward is karma. Good karma." added Matthew.

"It [the box] was really prominent when the deer ate away all the foliage. I thought it was an electrical box."Matthew continued:
"Hundreds, jewelry, diamonds, engagement ring. Dozens of rings, gold with jade. It was stunning."A paper with one of their neighbors' address was also found in the rusty safe.
"First, I knocked on the door and I asked them if they were ever robbed and they said they were," Matthew said.It appeared the neighbors were robbed in December 2011 and the safe was the only thing taken from the home... according to the New York Police Department.
When asked why they didn't keep the money and jewelries for themselves, Maria said, "It wasn't even a question. It wasn't ours."
