The California accident killed dad-of-two Apple engineer, Walter Huang, 38, when his Tesla car hit a road barrier in California's Silicon Valley while driving on autopilot, the car burst into flames - after Huang's rescue. The accident has prompted investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board into the Tesla model to affirm safety.

Tesla confirmed the Autopilot feature had been engaged at the time of the crash and that Mr Huang failed to take heed warnings for him to resume control of the steering wheel for six seconds before the crash. The Elon Musk's company claims.

Another Tesla nearly crashed while on autopilot in the same spot where a Model X was involved in a fatal accident.

This time a volunteer Tesla Driver, Shantanu Joshi, decided to test out the circumstances of the crash and shared the results on YouTube.

Commuting on autopilot on the 101 Highway near Mountain View, California, Shantanu only narrowly avoided crashing in the exact same spot.

Speaking to CBS, Mr Shantanu said:
"I low key freaked out, but the car definitely starts swerving left without giving me any warnings, right into that divider."

A professor of mechanical engineering at San Jose State University, Fred Barez told the programme:
"The lanes are not marked clearly on the road, so the camera attached to the Tesla vehicle is having a difficult time."
"Tesla believes in having eight cameras all around the vehicle and they monitor the presence of the lanes on the road."
Tesla did not reply to a request for comment when contacted by the media.
