DEATHROW INMATE WHO KILLED HIS MOTHER AND BROTHER SPARED JUST BEFORE EXECUTION

Texas Thomas “Bart” Whitaker was a few minutes away from execution by lethal injection when his death sentence was commuted to life imprison without the possibility of parole. Bart, now 38, in 2003 planned to wipe out his entirely family killing his mom and younger brother. His dad, Kent Whitaker survived the attack with life-threatening injuries. Bart was convicted and sentenced to death of the murders in 2007. Governor Greg Abbott commuted Bart's sentence from death to life in prison without parole. After a unanimous decision by the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles. The Governor said in a statement explaining his reasoning for granting clemency: “In just over three years as Governor, I have allowed 30 executions. I have not granted a commutation of a death sentence until now.” The murders of Mr. Whitaker’s mother and brother are reprehensible. The crime deserves severe punishment for the criminals who killed them.
