CHINA: The dangerous path Children from a remote Chinese village have to pass through to get to school

Not only children but also inhabitants of the secluded village. These shocking pictures show these pupils climbing unsecured vine ladders on the side of a steep rock face to go to and from scchool.

They live in a 'cliff village' known as Atule'er, which is situated on the top of a 2,624-foot-tall peak in south-west China, and their school is at the foot of the mountain.

For their parents who are used to the journey, it takes them an hour to go down the cliff and an hour and a half to go up while it takes children with their heavy schoolbags, around two hours to climb 17 cliff ladders, in the company of at least three adults. This has made some parents in the village refuse to educate their children.

However, they are content with their living because the village land is fertile and the villagers are self sufficient. They have good land resources and have a high yield of crops.

So far, the perilous journey has killed around eight people, as the journeys are so difficult, with the villagers encountering rain and snowy weather.

Although residents would like the government to build a road leading to and from the village, due to the high costs and small number of people who live there, it appears to be out of the question.

Building a road to the village would cost 60 million yuan (£6.2 million), which the government believes is not cost effective.

NIGERIA: WAR AGAINST CORRUPTION: FG saves N50bn as it weeds off 43,000 ghost workers, cuts down on allowances

The Head of the Continuous Audit team of the Federal Government, Mohammed Dikwa says the Federal government has saved up to N50 billion through the audit of security agencies payroll and has been able to weed off 43, 000 ghost workers from its payroll.

Dikwa said this at a meeting between the Continuous Audit team, Minister of Finance and Heads of Para-Military agencies to discuss ways to clean up the payroll of the security agencies, in Abuja yesterday May 24th;

“Since we started the continuous audit programme, we have saved about N50 billion and over 43,000 ghost workers have been removed from the payroll of the federal government. And as we go on, we are very sure that we will continue to reduce the cost of federal government payroll. Please note the cost is not related to ghost workers alone but with allowances which we believe have to be trimmed down so that we can manage the cost of governance’’he said.

ANIMAL WORLD: Hungry crocodile has a wholesome way around tough tortoise shell (photos)

Faced with huge teeth and gaping jaws, one tortoise played it smart and retreated into the sanctuary of its armour-like shell as hungry crocs fought over it. Its tactic wasn't the smartest after all as one croc battled the others away and swallowed the tortoise whole.

The images were taken by part time photographer Lisl Moolman, 42, at South Africa's Krueger National Park while on a family holiday.

She said: 'I was sitting at the dam, sightseeing and watching animals as they came to drink. As is the norm, crocodiles sunbathe at this dam. Everything was quiet and tranquil, until another visitor attracted my attention showing me that a crocodile just caught a leopard tortoise and was moving into the water at great speed.

She added: 'I saw a crocodile at the water's edge moving into the water with high speed, a leopard tortoise clamped tightly between its jaws. The tortoise shell is notoriously quite hard to break. It kept the tortoise in its jaws, while some more crocodiles gathered around it. It wasn't long before they started fighting over it, and the tortoise disappeared into the depths of the water after being dropped.
'After a couple of minutes, it drifted to the surface, where a crocodile guarded it until swimming away after about half an hour.'

The croc may find that shell hard to stomach.

CAMBODIA: Man & his two grandchildren killed by decades-old artillery shell

A grandfather and two of his grandchildren were killed by a decades-old artillery shell on Tuesday, May 24 in Prey Veng province, Cambodia, when it exploded as the old man was using it as a makeshift workbench.
73-year-old Tep Pha had the 105mm shell sticking out of the ground head first at his home in Preah Sdech district and was using the flat bottom as a surface to beat a small piece of metal into shape with an ax.

According to Sreng Chea, the provincial police chief. Mr. Chea,  the old man was preparing the metal piece to cap a wood stake he wanted to use to tether his cows.
"According to relatives and villagers, he had it since the 1980s and always used it as a surface to hit things, but it never exploded," he said.

When the shell finally did explode on Tuesdayat about 11:30 a.m., it instantly killed Tep Phal and the two children—Phal Nary, 12, and her brother Phal Dara, 9.

"I think maybe he did not think it could explode," Mr. Chea said. "It’s very shocking because the family lost three members at once."

He said authorities had often informed locals about the dangers of old ordnance and that it had been a long time since such an explosion had claimed a life in the province.

"When it exploded, his wife was in the house," Romcheck commune chief Pheung Ry said. "But his two grandchildren were playing near him, so they were killed along with their grandfather."

Mr. Ry said he had often seen the shell at Tep Phal’s house but had no idea he was using it as a makeshift workbench and thought the old man, a former teacher, would have known better.

"Previously, CMAC [Cambodian Mine Action Center] officials had educated villagers in my commune, but he kept it in secret,” Mr. Ry said. “I think he thought it would not explode."

The bodies would be cremated yesterday. The government advises villagers to report to authorities any old ordnance they uncover and not to handle it themselves.
Cambodia remains littered with old mines, bombs and rockets across the country.

TMZ REPORTS THIS ABOUT KANYE WEST...

Below is how MediaTakeOut.com is reporting it
MTO just received word that a Kanye West sex tape is about to drop. The video, which was purportedly taken in 2012, shows Kanye having relations with a very well built African-American woman. She appears to be some type of “video model.” MediaTakeOut.com saw a screener of the sex tape, and we have to say – it is by far the best celebrity sex tape that we’ve ever seen.
The video was LEAGUES better that Kanye’s wife Kim’s. What made it so much better? It was Kanye – dude has got SKILLS. In the tape (which was taken from the side of the bed), Kanye is seen PUTTING HIS BACK into every stroke. Dude was looking like an adult film star. And the woman, who was VERY well built, seemed to be really enjoying it. We should point out that his video was taken more than TWO years BEFORE Kanye was married to Kim. The two weren’t even dating at this time. Obviously we can’t leak any of the screenshots or the footage, but from what we understand, it will be leaked before the end of the day.

FOOTBALL: OZIL LIKES INSTAGRAM POST CRITICISING GIROUD OVER PREMIER LEAGUE RECORD

The Germany international looked on course to smash Henry’s tally of 20 assists in the 2002-03 season as he had set up 15 goals by December 22.

But much like Arsenal’s title challenge, Ozil’s productivity faded in the second half of the season and he finished the campaign one shy of equalling Henry’s landmark.

So who’s to blame? Well, it looks like Ozil has Ground firmly in the frame.

The France international scored just six Premier League goals in 2016 and a meme on Instagram which pointed out the striker’s dry spell was liked by Ozil.

If Arsenal players are reluctant to shout at each other in the dressing room, the next best thing is to like critical Instagram posts of their team-mates, isn’t it?

FOOTBALL: THE SHADE GAME: GARETH BALE OF REAL MADRID SHADES ATLETICO MADRID AHEAD OF UCL FINAL BETWEEN THE CITY RIVALS

The two Madrid clubs are set to meet in Saturday’s Champions League final in Milan, with Bale aiming to win his second European trophy since joining Los Blancos in 2013.
Atletico finished just two points behind Madrid in La Liga this season, while their goalkeeper Jan Oblak equalled the record for the most clean sheets in a single season in the Spanish top flight.
Antoine Griezmann was another star of Atletico’s season with 32 goals in all competitions but Bale insists no player from Diego Simeone’s side would warrant a starting place at Madrid.

“To me, no Atletico player would feature in Real Madrid's team,” Bale told Cadena COPE's ‘El Partido de las 12’.

Bale scored against Atletico when they met in the Champions League final in 2014 and has netted 19 times in 30 games in all competitions this term - failing to get off the mark in the European competition this year.
