K*K cool with it? Anti-slavery activist Harriet Tubman to replace Jackson on the US $20 bill

The US Treasury Department announced on Wednesday that Harriet Tubman, an abolitionist who risked her life bringing hundreds of slaves to freedom, will replace President Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill, which will make her the first female on a US currency.

Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew confirmed that Hamilton would remain on the $10 bill after an unexpected public show of support fueled, in part, by the popularity of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway play based on Hamilton's life by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The $5, $10 and $20 bills will all be redesigned over the next four years, but will be put into production at various times over the next decade.

Former US president, George Washington's wife, Martha was featured on a $1 silver certificate over a century ago.

MARIJUANA: Canada to introduce legislation to make sale of marijuana legal... M-JAY's here to stay

The Canadian government will soon introduce legislation next year that would make the sale of marijuana legal. If enacted, Canada would become one of the largest Western countries to allow widespread use of the drug which is considered illegal in many parts of the world. Medical use of marijuana is already legal and some have insisted that legal marijuana would reduce stress on Canada's criminal justice system.

Canadian Health Minister Jane Philpott pledged to keep marijuana out of the hands of children and profits out of the hands of criminals. According to her, the Government will work with law enforcement partners to encourage appropriate and proportionate criminal justice measures.

Bill Blair, a former Toronto police chief has been named by Prime Minister - Justin Trudeau as the government's point person on legalisation. According to Blair, the Government would control who it's sold to, when it's sold and also how it's used in order to prevent organised crime from having the opportunity to profit from it.

A FAN INDEED: Messi blocks Miss BumBum Brazil on Instagram for sending him pictures

According to the SUN, football player, Lionel Messi blocked Miss Bum Bum Brazil 2015, Suzy Cortez from sending him indecent photos on Instagram.
Cortez claimed that Messi's partner, Antonella Roccuzzo, became jealous when she saw the types of inappropriate photos she was sending to Messi on IG and blocked her..both on her own IG and Messi's IG account.

Cortez said she had no ulterior motive when she sent those photos and hat she was just a fan.
She said

"I was completely shocked when I spotted it,. "If I could, I would tell her not to be worried about me, I'm just a fan. I'm surprised that she isn't more sure of herself."

"I guess it can only be because she is jealous. It's very silly because I'm just a football fan and a huge fan of Barcelona. This is just an overreaction" 

"I only follow about 10 people and he was one of them. So when I saw that I was blocked I thought it could only be jealousy," Cortez told the Sun. "Why would he block me if he has 40 million followers? Then I checked her profile and confirmed she had also blocked me."

Messi and his partner Roccuzzo, have known each other since childhood and have two children together.

Spanish Airline withdraws services from Nigeria, cites "financial difficulties' due to CBN forex policy

Spanish national carrier, Iberia Airline has withdrawn its services from Nigeria. The decision which was taken yesterday, was based on the huge financial difficulties the airline is facing due to Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)  refusal to exempt foreign airlines from its forex policy.

Nairametrics, a Business News, and Financial Analysis Website, reports that other foreign airlines are also contemplating pulling their services from the country.

The CBN policy has prevented it from repatriating its proceeds made in Nigeria in the last few months. Foreign airlines have over $500 million trapped in the various banks.

Before Iberia took this decision, foreign carriers had expressed their displeasure at the CBN policy, with many threatening to withdraw their services from Nigeria if nothing was urgently done to reverse it, The Tribune reports.

Following this development, foreign carriers requested to meet with the Federal Government to work out a solution by exempting foreign airlines from this policy. They are expected to meet with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo in Abuja, today.

N.KOREA: Kim Jong-un bans jeans, lponytails and piercings in latest crackdown on Western fashion

North Koreans have now been banned from having piercings, while earrings are not banned, piercings on any other part of the body are to be prohibited, wearing jeans, having ponytails and some other 'western' fashion have all been banned as part of a crackdown on Western culture ahead of its annual workers' conference. They also check the length of skirts, the shape of shoes, Tshirts and hairstyles according to Asia Press

According to Ishimaru Jiro, a Japanese journalist working with citizen reporters inside North Korea, 'A growing number of North Korean people are infatuated with Western culture. The crackdown will continue until the end of the upcoming gathering (the 7th Congress).'

Kim Jong-un launched the crackdown focusing on areas close to China border where citizens have easier access to information - and cultural trends - from the outside world.

The ban was uncovered by citizen journalists at Rimjin-gang, a North Korean news website supported by AsiaPress.

The regime fiercely opposes Western culture in any form and has been known to send those guilty of what King anti-socialist" behaviour to its notorious labour camps. 

"A growing number of North Korean people are infatuated with Western culture," said Ishimaru Jiro, a Japanese reporter who works with citizen journalists inside the regime.

"The crackdown will continue until the end of the upcoming gathering," he added, referring to the upcoming 7th Congress of the Workers' Party.
It was also claimed that "inspection units," consisting of teenagers dedicated to leader Kim Jong-un, are prowling the streets for those who dare to break the dress code.
They are also required to have a particular hairstyle.

The North Korean Youth Union (NKYU) who consist of members who sign up once they reach the age of 15, also hunt for unmarried women doing business in marketplaces, as this is also forbidden.
Members of this Union are sworn to prevent "the corruption of public morals."

North Korea has previously told its male citizens to adopt spartan Socialist hairstyles no longer than three of four inches.
 The campaign, dubbed "Let's trim our hair in accordance with the socialist lifestyle" which is meant to control grooming and dress standards.

MONEY: NIGERIA: Naira Appreciates Against Dollar After Buhari's Visit to China

President of the Association of the Bureaux de Change Operators in Nigeria, Aminu Gwadabe, has stated that the federal government's recent deal with China is favoring the Naira.
The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Ltd and the Central Bank of Nigeria signed a deal on Yuan transactions last week during President Muhammadu Buhari's visit to the Asian country. The deal was struck to resuscitate the current currency slump in Nigeria. It means the Yuan will now flow freely around Nigerian banks and will even be included in the country's foreign exchange reserves.

Since the announcement, the Naira had appreciated by 10 naira against the dollar, Aminu Gwadabe said. According to him, the dollar was now changing for 310 as against the former rate of 320 and predicted that once the policy is in force, the price of dollar will continue to fall.

"You know more than 50 percent of foreign businesses in Nigeria is with China and before now, Nigerians doing business in China have to change their money to dollar, then from dollar to Yuan," he added.

"You can all testify to the number of made in China things in the country. So if small and large businesses can convert straight to Yuan, it's better," he told reporters.

He added that this new policy will help the informal payment sector and also urged the CBN to monitor the development closely for effective implementation of the policy.

Elsewhere? Mum leaves her 14 month old daughter in hot car while she auditioned at a strip club

A 24 year old Tennessee mother, Kelsey McMurtry has been arrested for leaving her 14-month-old daughter in a very hot car while she danced at a strip club, authorities said. A good Samaritan who saw the toddler when her mum left her in the car said she had been inside for 30 minutes, before the police were called. 
 

The temperature inside the car was above 100 degrees and the little girl was wearing a coat according to the arrest warrant.

According to the affidavit, McMurtry, who worked as a bikini and lingerie model and as a ring girl during boxing and MMA events, had left her daughter in the care of a friend, 19 year old Summer Taylor. Rather than watch the child,  Taylor left her in PT Cruiser, then went inside the strip club to watch McMurtry's audition according to the warrant.

When police arrived and found the child in the car all alone, they pulled McMurtry outside and had her remove the girl from the vehicle. The toddler was wearing a medium to heavy coat and was drenched in sweat.
The little girl was taken to the hospital and into custody by the Department of Children’s Services.
McMurtry, who had an outstanding warrant, initially gave police a fake name when they confronted her.

She’s since been charged with a felony charge of child neglect of a child 8 or less, criminal impersonation and the outstanding charge of no driver’s license. She’s held on a $40,000 bond.
Taylor was also charged with felony child neglect of a child 8 or less. She’s held on $10,000 bond.

Both women are due in court Monday afternoon.
