MUST BE NICE: 18 years after, Police officer who carried a young girl to safety, attends her college graduation (photos)

In June 1998, a retired Hartford, Connecticut Police officer named Peter Getz, carried a young girl to safety away from a building on fire. He rescued 'Josibek Aponte', who was already covered in ash at the time she was found, after the apartment building she and her uncle were living in erupted in flames while they were inside. The young girl was just 5-year-old then, wasn't breathing and didn't have a pulse when she was pulled out.
Peter Getz who was on patrol at that time, took her from the firefighters, and began CPR. He had someone drive his car and rush them to the hospital while still performing CPR on her. Thankfully, his quick thinking helped as she began breathing again as they pulled into the hospital. Her Uncle on the other hand, didn't survive the fire and passed away from the injuries sustained.

Peter Getz said he followed her progress for years in the school system, just to make sure she was doing well and two years ago, she reached out to him. Last week, Josibek Aponte graduated with honours from the Eastern Connecticut State University with a bachelor's degree in accounting and a special guest there was the retired detective, who she said was an important part of her life.

FOOTBALL: DANI ALVES WANTS ATLETICO TO WIN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Barcelona defender Dani Alves admits he is hoping Atletico Madrid prevail over bitter rivals Real Madrid in Saturday's Champions League final.

Diego Simeone's Atletico knocked defending champions Barcelona out of the tournament in the quarter-final stage, before edging past Bayern Munich in the semis.
Madrid are the only team that stand in Atletico's way of a maiden Champions League crown, in a rematch of the 2014 final that ended 4-1 in favour of the former after extra time.
But Dani Alves is hoping for a different result at the San Siro, with the Brazil international of the belief that Atletico are more than worthy winners of the competition.
"I want Atletico to win in. But not just because I want Madrid to lose," the 33-year-old told AS
"I like it when Madrid don't win, that is obvious. But I want Atletico to win it because they are a team that has worked for it.
"They deserve a title of this level, and they come into it having competed with the best.
"Madrid already have a lot of Champions Leagues. I would like Atletico to have a prize for all the work they have done in recent years."

Piers Morgan thinks Kim K should act more like a role model...

At the Vogue 100 Gala held in London last night, Kim defended her right to post nude pics but Piers Morgan thinks she's wrong. Appearing on Good Morning Britain, the 51-year-old said the reality star has a responsibility as a role model, to behave in a certain way.
Kim said: 'For me, it wasn't even about flaunting it. I felt good about myself so let ME do what I feel comfortable with. If you are conservative and if you're not comfortable with that, that's amazing too'

But Piers Morgan said: 'Kim Kardashian just called me amazing. She's wrong about the naked selfies. Do that to Kanye. I've got no problem with what she does in her own life.

Doing it to a bunch of millions of young girls... is that really the arbiter of success for women in the world now? No, it's not. Actually, she looked very stylish last night. Be stylish. Be cool, be sexy, be genuinely empowering.'

He also took a shot at Harriet Harman who defended Kim and her topless snaps.
He said: Now she wholeheartedly supports her topless selfies, saying they're empowering women and it's all about gender equality.

'Harriet's digging herself in a little hole here,' he said. 'She needs to work out whether it is or isn't offensive.'

NIGERIA: ECONOMY: CBN says recession in Nigeria is imminent

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has warned that economic recession is imminent. According toThe Cable, Emefiele said this during the apex banks's monetary policy committee (MPC) meeting.

"The conditions that led to the contractions in the first quarter of 2016 were still largely unresolved. The recession which was signalled in July 2015, now appears imminent.”he said
According to Emefiele, the previous decisions of the MPC need time to crystallize, hence, there was no need adjusting rates. Stating the decision as the least risky option, the committee asked the CBN to work on a flexible exchange rate system.

It did not mention whether or not devaluation of the Naira was needed. The bank said the monetary policy rate (MPR) and cash reserve ratio (CRR) will remain at 12 percent and 22.5 percent respectively.
