RAPE: Transgender woman who raped a girl before transition sent to male prison

A transgender woman, Davina Ayrton convicted of rape when she was a man, has been sent to a male prison.
Ayrton, 34, who changed her name from David three years ago was found guilty on Friday, January 9, of raping a 15-year-old girl in the autumn of 2004. The week-long trial at Portsmouth crown court heard that she had attempted to kill herself last summer.

Judge Ian Pearson remanded Ayrton into custody for her safety and said it was likely she would be held in Winchester prison until sentencing on 4 March.
Ayrton, who was said to have learning difficulties, has been living at the Heywood Sumner House care home in nearby Fordingbridge. She has not undergone any physical modifications or taken medication as part of her gender change.
"I am going to have to remand in custody, if I were to release on bail there are substantial grounds to believe she would be a risk to herself and a risk of failing to attend for whatever reason," Judge Pearson said.
"I will therefore have to remand in custody, it will have to be a male prison in Winchester but it will be an issue for the prison service."
Thanking the jury, the judge added: "It’s been a slightly unusual case and it’s not been an easy case."
The trial heard that Ayrton had met the teenage victim, who had run away from home, and two friends on an evening in autumn 2004 and gone drinking in a garage which had a sofa and chairs in it.
The victim described how she screamed and shouted at Ayrton, who was 23 at the time, to stop but failed to wake her friend and her boyfriend who were asleep nearby
The prosecution was brought after a care worker reported that Ayrton had confessed to the rape in January 2014, described herself as a “paedophile” and said she had “always known there was something wrong with me and I need help".
Ayrton, who has a son, was convicted of possessing indecent images of children at Bournemouth crown court in January 2014. A court officer said the prison had been informed and protocols put in place for Ayrton’s detention.

TERROR ATTACK IN EGYPT: Gunmen attack Egyptian hotel wounding 2 foreign tourists

Three armed men have reportedly stormed a hotel in the Red Sea city of Hurghada, one of Egypt’s most popular tourist resorts.

The attack took place at Bella Vista Hotel on today, Ahram Online reported. A hotel worker told the newspaper that at least two tourists had been injured.

According to Reuters, security forces confirmed that two foreign tourists, one from Germany and one from Denmark were wounded  adding that the assailants arrived by sea to carry out the attack.

State television reported that Egyptian security forces killed one of the gunmen.

There have been no official reports on casualties so far.

The latest assault comes as shortly after Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) claimed responsibility for a Thursday attack on Israeli tourists in Cairo. Last month, IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi called on supporters to target Jews “everywhere.”

There were no further casualties, Egyptian authorities reported, adding that the assailants had been trying to target security forces, not the tourists.

ENGLAND: Two Nigerian who duped a woman out of £1.6m sentenced to prison in London

Two Nigerian men who duped a woman out of £1.6 million in a sophisticated romance scam were today, Friday, January 8, jailed for a total of 5-and-a-half years at Basildon Crown Court.

Ife Ojo, 31, (left) of Hammonds Drive, Peterborough in Cambridgeshire was jailed for 34 months for conspiracy to defraud. His accomplice Olusegun Agbaje (right), 43, of Kershaw Close, Hornchurch in Essex was jailed for 32 months for conspiracy to defraud.

Detective Chief Inspector Gary Miles, of FALCON - the Met’s specialist Cyber Crime and Fraud Unit, said:

"Today’s sentencing recognises the devastating impact this kind of fraud has on its victims. I would like to pay tribute to the victim in this case who provided evidence which was crucial in securing two guilty pleas in this case.
"The financial and emotional impact to the victim has been huge. Many victims borrow money from friends and family to pay the suspects. Victims typically feel embarrassed and ashamed when they realise they have been duped, so they often don't report what has happened to them or even confide in a friend."

In January 2015, a woman in her 40s, from Hillingdon, reported to Action Fraud that she had been a victim of fraud. The case was referred the Met's cyber crime and fraud team, FALCON.

The victim told police that in February 2014 she met a man calling himself Christian Anderson on a dating site. After a few weeks, they met in person. He told her that he was an engineer working in the oil industry, that he was divorced and had a daughter, and that his father and sister died of cancer.

After a few weeks, he told her that he loved her. He said he was having a difficult time working on a project in Benin, Africa. He said that he wanted to come home to be with her but first he needed some specialist machinery so he could finish the project. He asked her for a loan to pay import duty for the machinery.

She paid over £30,000 into the business account of his supposed personal assistant, a man allegedly called Brandon Platt, but Anderson then requested more cash, ranging from £25,000 for a police fine, to thousands of pounds to free up inheritance money left by his mother, who lived in Cape Town.

He told her that he wanted to use the inheritance money to set up a life with the victim. Fees for freeing up the inheritance money included costs for holding it in a vault in Amsterdam and $170,000 to pay for a non-existent "anti-terrorist certificate" so that the money could be deposited at a bank.

The victim had been convinced that they would live together, and had been looking for a home for them to buy. She met with someone claiming to be Anderson's lawyer, and even travelled to an office in Amsterdam to meet a man calling himself Dr Spencer, who was supposedly responsible for holding the money in a vault.
Between March and December 2014, the victim paid £1.6million into numerous bank accounts.

The money was subsequently transferred into various personal accounts, including £35,000 to the bank accounts of Ife Ojo and Olusegun Agbaje. The victim doubted the authenticity of Anderson's stories on numerous occasions but every time she asked for proof he sent false documentation or made up excuses for why he could not send her evidence.

FALCON carried out a financial investigation. They identified Agbaje as one of the recipients of the victim's money and went to his home address where they found him with Ojo. Both were arrested and their homes searched. At Ojo's home, they found a laptop containing records of the victim's conversation with Anderson, a memento book seemingly sent to Anderson by another victim and a copy of the book 'The Game'.

FALCON established that they had received £35,000 of the victim's cash and charged them. In September 2015, Ojo, a student from Peterborough and Agbaje, an administrative assistant of Hornchurch both pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud at Basildon Crown Court.

Detectives are continuing their enquiries as they seek other members of the gang and try to identify any other victims.

El Chapo: Mexican drug kingpin El Chapo recaptured in Mexico after gunfight

Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, one of the world's most sought-after drug lords, has been captured in his Sinaloa hometown.
Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto announced Friday.
"Mission accomplished!" the president said via his Twitter account.

He was captured again today at 4:30am in a firefight between his bodyguards and Mexican Marine special forces in the Sinaloa city of Los Mochis, on the Pacific coast and not far from his home, government officials said. Five of his associates were killed, six injured and several captured, the navy said. One marine was wounded.

The special forces were responding to a citizen’s tip regarding armed people in a home when they came under fire, the navy said.

Guzman -- a multi-billionaire thanks to his Sinaloa Cartel, which traffics in cocaine and marijuana -- escaped from jail in July for the second time, dramatically tunneling his way out of Mexico's top maximum-security prison.

Guzman’s escape last year was a major embarrassment for the Peña Nieto government, exposing deep levels of corruption and an inability to mete out justice.

The U.S. government lamented Mexico’s refusal to extradite Guzman to the U.S., where he has been indicted in California and elsewhere because of his cartel’s expanding operations. It is likely that Washington will now revive extradition requests.
